My Story

Updated: Sep 6

Hi there,

My name is Hamoon, and I am the founder / owner of Pure Function Fitness Center located in Woodland Hills California. I was born and raised in Iran. In 2016 I was given the opportunity to move to the states and together with my wife, we started our new lives in Los Angeles,CA. I am a NASM certified personal trainer with specialties in Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement. My studio offers Private and Semi-Private Training services. I specialize in training athletes and the public using functional training programs (hence the name of the studio).

My Passion for fitness stems from my childhood. Growing up I was always physically very active. Playing multiple sports such as soccer, basketball and tennis are just a few to name. I was always curious about the human movement and was always looking to find ways to enhance my sports performance by becoming faster and stronger.

As a kid, I always had a dream of becoming a professional soccer player, but cultural barriers along with lack of support from my family prevented me to do so. I always saw my future in sports and fitness, but due to family and society expectations, I followed the path of becoming a Civil Engineer, a field that I had zero passion and interest for. After receiving my degree, I started working for an engineering company and worked on a construction site. The more time I spend at the site, the more I realized how much I disliked what I was doing and how unhappy I was with the life I was living at the age of 26. During the time I worked as an engineer, I would constantly think of what my life would have looked like had I gone into sports and fitness. The dream of being a fitness expert and having my own studio grew so strong over time that it one day gave me the courage to walk away from my engineering position.

Shortly after I took the first step towards changing my career, I got married and along with my spouse we moved to the states and started building our new life. I was 27 when I started my education in sport and fitness and studied for multiple certifications. Learning about the human body and how it physically functions and moves, gave me the passion to obtain multiple certifications. After becoming a certified Personal Trainer, I started my career by working at different corporation gyms such as LA Fitness and 24 Fitness along with some smaller local fitness studios. During my years of working in the industry, I came to realize how the training field in corporation gyms lacked principles such as truly caring about the client and their individual goals, their physical abilities and providing fitness knowledge that would benefit each person according to their needs. I noticed how many clients where not seeing any results due to lack of proper knowledge which resulted in them losing interest, get board of their training and eventually quit.

The more I observed the industry, the more I started to see areas of opportunity in this field. These ideas slowly started to feed into an old dream of mine which was having a private fitness studio. I started envisioning a fitness studio that genuinely cares about its clients and wants to assist them with achieving their highest level of fitness and wellness. A place that will help each client to reset their mindset and point of view towards training, fitness and living a healthy lifestyle.

In April of 2019 I decided to turn this dream of mine into reality and with the help of Sahar, my wife, we rented a separate garage space that was only 360 sf and together established Pure Function Fitness Center. We started very small in the beginning and as our knowledge and experience of running a business grew, we decided to take another step forward and expanded the studio by relocating to a bigger space that could cater to more clients and trainers.

Starting Pure Function was one of the biggest challenges I have ever faced in my life but seeing my clients achieving their goals gave me the strength and courage to believe in myself and to pursue this dream.

What I’ve learned from this journey so far is that going after your dream and what you believe in is amazing, but achieving that dream comes with many challenges and setbacks that one must be mentally prepared for. Throughout this journey, there have been many days that I’ve doubt myself and the steps I’ve taken, but I’ve come to realize that those days are nothing but some smaller challenges that need to be overcome one day at a time. It is on those days that I remind myself the most the reason why I am where I am today. I remind myself why I opened Pure Function Fitness Center and how much potential there is for all humans to learn how to move and physically perform better during this sedentary area that we all are currently living in.

My dream and passion for fitness has always been my main reason for entering the world of fitness, but my biggest inspiration for establishing Pure Function Fitness Center was a 75-year-old client that came to the gym one day who was a cancer survivor that could barely move, had a hard time getting up from the floor and was unable to even attempt holding a single leg balance. Together we started building back his strength and confidence and took one step at a time each day towards his recovery. The fight I saw in his eyes along with the trust he gained in me and my method of training, is what truly inspired me to start Pure Function Fitness Center.

It's been three years since I first met this client. His current level of fitness and performance is one of the best I’ve ever seen given his age and medical history. Every time he comes to the studio, he is looking to improve his fitness and is always asking for new challenges. Being part of his fitness journey has truly been a privilege. He is the reason why I now have a big passion for assisting the public with their fitness and performance.
